Check Out This iCandy! Philly’s New Pub!
Over the last few weeks iCandy has been going through a huge renovation that was meant to add some room to a tight, dark space while trying to accentuate some of the true beauty that has been hidden under layers and layers of plaster, wall board and drop down ceilings. The biggest modification was the opening of the windows and the main door, where the building's original arched ones were located, to allow sunlight and breathe new life into the building, which has not had windows since the mid 1960's.
Well, after weeks of speculation, anticipation, and hundreds of man-hours all was revealed last night on iCandy's 2nd Anniversary to a VIP party and later to the entire Gayborhood. To say they did an amazing renovation is to say that the Queen Mary is just a boat. With new seating areas, higher ceilings, beautiful lighting, and an openness that has not been ever felt there in over 40 years, Darryl Depiano and the amazing staff at iCandy did an awesome job.
Fresh Look and Feel
No expense was spared to launch the new 1st floor space called "The Pub." With a large Stolichnaya ice sculpture that served fresh shrimp, and hors d’oeuvres carried around by the hot men and women of iCandy as well as an open bar, all who attended had a blast. Hundreds of VIP’s in attendance at the Gala party on Saturday included such notables as Franny Price, founder of Philly Pride Presents, Philly Gay Calendar’s very own Steve McCann, Mark Segal, owner of the PGN, Council James Kinney, Councilman Mark Squilla, representatives from the LGBT Police Liaison Committee and many others.
You can never be too comfortable with success and you always need to reinvent yourself. Well, the people at iCandy have done that and again have brought themselves to the pinnacle of success. What’s next at iCandy? Although Darryl says nothing at the moment, he is always thinking up new ways to shock his customers and says there is much more to come. You need come check out "The Pub", grab a drink, and talk to the staff. You will have the same relaxed feeling that everyone else had that night and you will not want to leave. Also make sure you look at their own version of the "Smithsonian," items found during the renovations, some of the items may surprise you.
