Club Cumming Coming to the East Village, Alan Cumming to Open Club

Tuesday Apr 11, 2017

Cumming in an East Village bar? It's been done, but not like this.

Alan Cumming is taking his act downtown - to the gay haunt Eastern Bloc to be exact. According to a report by Page Six, the Tony Award winner and former star of TV's "The Good Wife" has plans to open Club Cumming this fall in the space currently occupied by Eastern Bloc on East 6th Street.

Cumming will be partnering with longtime buddy and nightlife promoter Daniel Nardicio. Eastern Bloc owners - Anderson Cooper's partner Benjamin Maisani and Darren Dryden are also reported to be involved in the new venture.

"Alan is highbrow/lowbrow, and so am I," Nardicio (who gave Bianca Del Rio and Lady Gaga big career boosts, works with Diamanda Galas and Dina Martina, and does hoppin' hormonal bashes in Fire Island all summer) told Michael Musto. "We want to make things more chic, like a Kit Kat Club-style dressing room and a bathroom redone by a major cosmetics firm. And we'll bring back Reading For Filth, the reading series Brian Butterick did, as well as having all sorts of live performances, like Brian Newman, who's Lady Gaga's trumpet player/jazz band leader, and hopefully Amanda Lepore's CD release party."

Page Six notes Cumming previously created Club Cumming as a pop-up bar in his dressing room at Studio 54 during the second revival run of the musical "Cabaret" when he reprised his Tony Award-winning performance as the Emcee.

"Alan wants it to be a home for everyone of all ages, all genders, all sexualities, who all enjoy letting go and making some mischief. No judgments, no attitude, no rules, except kindness, acceptance and fun," said a rep for Cumming.

"The result sounds like it will be a whole new Cum bucket of fun," Musto quipped.
