'RuPaul's Drag Race' Judge Ross Mathews Sheds 50 Pounds
"RuPaul's Drag Race" judge Ross Mathews took to Instagram to share his svelte new look after dropping 50 pounds since June in order to "reclaim his health" after his mother's death, Just Jared reports.
Saying that he was "Breaking the pattern" by taking charge of his health, Mathews said in his post that his current weight is 70 pounds lighter than his "all-time" heaviest.
Reporting on Mathews' healthier new approach and its results, People magazine said, "While mostly staying home during the COVID-19 pandemic, Mathews has revamped his diet and changed up many of his favorite meals to make them healthier.
"He's shared those recipes — or as he calls them, his 'Rossipes' — in Instagram videos."
Mathews' mother died in May, People recalled.
"I hope — no, I know — that her spirit lives within me and I will spend the rest of my life trying to be as good as she was, as kind as she was and authentic as she was," Mathews shared in a May 30 post. "I am who I am because of how she loved me."
UK newspaper the Daily Mail recalled that Mathews lost the same amount of weight in 2017, and said at the time that taking up walking and making better diet choices was how he did it.
"I'm never hungry, I eat as much protein and vegetables as I want, string cheese, turkey, and carrots," Mathews explained. "So I never feel deprived, I am just not eating the Doritos."
Mathews acknowledged the difficulty of keeping extra weight off for good, following his latest "battle of the bulge" victory, writing at Instagram, "I will always be a work in progress. I may mess up again. I dunno. All I know is that I'm very grateful. And very happy."
