Oreo Partners with PFLAG for Pride Edition of Classic Cookies

Longtime LGBTQ+ ally Oreo has partnered once again with PFLAG to produce a Pride edition of America's Favorite Cookie, Candy Industry.com reported.

The specially-designed packaging bears messages of support, and is customizable with a blank space where allies can fill in their own words of love and acceptance.

Saying that the new edition is Oreo's "first official retail Pride pack in celebration of Pride Month this June," the site relayed that "The OREO Pride Limited Edition Cookie pack reinforces the importance of active allyship by transforming the cookie pack exterior into a beautifully decorated canvas full of authentic words of love for the LGBTQ+ community sourced from real, lifelong allies.

"It is designed to be written on and meant to be gifted," the report added.

Retail giant Walmart is stocking the cookies, offering them for preorder at $4.28 per package.

"OREO is proud to continue its long-standing commitment to the LGBTQ+ community through our partnership with PFLAG NATIONAL with the limited edition OREO Pride Chocolate Sandwich Cookies," the product description reads.

"For this year's Pride month, we're introducing a limited edition OREO Pride pack which acts as a canvas for allies to share their words of pride. This OREO cookie pack features chocolate wafer cookies with original creme that have been embossed with 'PROUD' on one side.

"This pack of Kosher chocolate sandwich cookies has been designed to share loving words of support sourced from real allies with a writable space that gives the opportunity for everyone to add their own words of allyship," the description continues. "We invite everyone to show their support by taking the time to write their words of support and gifting it to their LGBTQ+ loved ones.

"These sweet treats are the classic OREO chocolate wafer cookies with the original creme filling you know and love."

The Pride edition cookies are only the latest in a line of allyship-related special editions of the popular sandwich creme cookies and special advertisements created in partnership with PFLAG and directed at the LGBTQ+ market.

Earlier this year the brand teamed with independent lesbian filmmaker Alice Wu ("Saving Face") for a moving short film titled "The Note," which Oreo posted to social media, in which a young gay man prepares to come out to his extended family, practicing what he wants to say in his grandparents' native language. He's shown unconditional support by his mother.

In another family-themed short film called "Proud Parent," Oreo posted last year a young woman brings her girlfriend home to meet her family. Her father initially seems distant at the news, but then prepares a moving surprise that makes apparent his unwavering devotion to his daughter. That film accompanied the release of a special rainbow-themed edition of the classic cookies.

Unsurprisingly, anti-LGBTQ+ pundits, hungry for controversy, found the Pride-themed snackables irresistible and quickly swarmed around the ads. Newsmax anchor Greg Kelly declared, "I do not like gay cookies," and posted a tweet in which he urged his followers to "stay the hell away from Oreo cookies".

Ben Shapiro send out a tweet in which he declared, "Your cookie must affirm your sexual lifestyle" and followed up with a claim that "every woke corporation now believes it must become an activist LGBTQIA+-%6& outlet."

For the brand's fans, it might be simpler: A favorite treat is all the better when it comes with a serving of appreciation and respect.
