The Boston Gay Men's Chorus Presents 'We the People'

Kilian Melloy READ TIME: 1 MIN.

The Boston Gay Men's Chorus addresses love, commitment, and marriage equality through song with its 2010 Spring Concert, We the People.

The Spring Concert celebrates the passionate flush of romance and the longevity of lifetime love with a selection of music that includes American classics ("The Man I Love," "When I Fall in Love") and classic Americana (a re-worked version of the stomping fun "Cindy"), as well as tender ballads ("Naked in the Leaves") and powerful compositions ("The Tree of Peace").

The concert's centerpiece, however, is a five-movement composition by Mark Koval, "We the People," which examines the history and the politics of marriage equality, from Constitutional guarantees of equality to the ongoing struggle by gay and lesbian families for full and equal recognition under the law. The two performances--one on Saturday, March 27, at 8:00 p.m., and the other on Sunday, March 28, at 3:00 p.m., both at Jordan Hall, located at 30 Gainsborough Street--will feature critically acclaimed Boston actor and playwright John Kuntz as The Narrator, with Marjorie Claprood and Congressman Michael Capuano appearing as Guest Speakers (on the 27th and 28th, respectively).

Tickets can be obtained online or via phone at 617-542-SING.

(Full disclosure: this reporter is a Tenor 2 with the Chorus.)
