Monogamy

Christian Cintron READ TIME: 1 MIN.

"Monogamy" is an indie journey deep into relationships through a hipster lens.

Theo (Chris Messina) and Nat (Rashida Jones) are the poster couple for hipster Brooklyn. He is a wedding photographer/aspiring artist, and she is a folk singer. As their wedding approaches, Nat begins to pull away sexually and avoid intimacy. Meanwhile, Theo delves deeper into his Gumshoot experiment, where he follows people and photographs them so they can see how other people see them. When a young woman Meital Dohan enlists his services, her sexual exploration begins to affect what Theo thinks about relationships.

The DVD has unique and lush packaging. Sadly, the movie isn't mind-blowing. The bonus features include a music video with Rashida Jones actually singing. There are some deleted scenes and outtakes and a copy of the script. Overall, the bonus features are interesting but they're not a significant selling point. It's pretty standard fare, and doesn't add that much to a movie that is really an art house feature. Fans of Rashida Jones will enjoy her take on drama; the film is cerebral and thought provoking, though it can drag on at times.
