NC Christian School Aims to Ban Students with LGBT Families

A Christian school in Wilmington, N.C., (about 130 miles south of Raleigh) is allegedly trying to implement a policy that would effectively prohibit students from attending if someone from the LGBT community is a member of their family, according to the Huffington Post.

Officials from Myrtle Grove Christina School allegedly sent a letter to families of students last week, notifying them of the change in policy, which is backed by biblical passages.

HuffPo posted part of the letter, which reads: " ... at what point are a family's moral affirmations or lifestyles far enough away from the biblical center that we cannot hold hands in partnership? .. the school reserves the right, within its sole discretion, to refuse admission of an applicant or to discontinue enrollment of a student if the atmosphere or conduct within a particular home or the activities of the student are counter to or are in opposition to the biblical lifestyle the school teaches.

"This includes, but is not necessarily limited to, participating in, supporting, or affirming sexual immorality, homosexual activity,or bisexual activity; promoting such practices; or being unable to support the moral principles of the school," the letter says.

Some have taken issue with the letter and a Facebook page has been created to counter the new policy. The page, called "Boycott Myrtle Grove Christian School," currently has 414 likes.

"Please support this effort to shut down the ugly ignorance that envolops [sic] this school. Save NC from the Dark Ages," one of the page's first posts reads.

"A step backward from 21st century Learning to archaic judgment and hate, this school should not be awarded TAXPAYER dollars for vouchers," the page's "About" section reads.

According to the page and Huffpo, protesters have gathered across the street from the school to protest the anti-LGBT policy.
