Katy Perry Revises Harrison Butker's Homophobic, Misogynistic Graduation Speech

Whether dreaming of an alternate universe edition of the infamous commencement speech delivered by Harrison Butker last month, or simply applying some remix knowhow, Katy Perry came up with a very different take on the Chiefs kicker's graduation address.

Butker's Speech (Perry's Version) dropped on Instagram on June 2, with the pop superstar captioning the meticulously reworked video of Butker's address with: "fixed this for my girls, my graduates, and my gays - you can do anything, congratulations and happy pride 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ 🧡".

"In Butker's commencement speech at Benedictine College in May, he condemned abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia and the LGBTQ community," Variety recalled.

"He also denounced the 'diabolical lies' being told to women about their place in society, later stating that a woman's 'most important title' should be 'homemaker.'"

Butker's venom also directly targeted Pride month. The New York Times reported that the NFL player "referred to Pride Month, the events in June demonstrating inclusivity and support for the LGBTQ+ community, as an example of the 'deadly sins' as he advocated for a more conservative brand of Catholicism."

In his comments, Butker called for "Not the deadly sins sort of Pride that has an entire month dedicated to it, but the true God-centered pride that is cooperating with the holy ghost to glorify him."

He also called upon male graduates to "Be unapologetic in your masculinity" and to "fight... against the cultural emasculation of men." The footballer encouraged young men to "lean into" capacities that bring glory to God "over something that you might think suits you better."

Butker also offered the opinion that men are the proper stewards of society and their role is to "set the tone" - an unsurprising stance considering the views he expressed regarding women.
