Concert goers were thrilled when K-pop star Bain made a surprise mid-concert announcement. He's "proud to be part of the LGBT community," he said, according to the BBC.
Bain's coming out, which drew thunderous applause and screams of approval from the crowd, took place at a Los Angeles venue on April 22.
"To anyone out there who's part of the LGBT community, or still figuring it out - this is for you guys," the singer declared in an Instagram post following the onstage appearance, the BBC reported.
"You are seen, you are loved, and you were born this way," Bain went on to say. He gave a shoutout to Lady Gaga before covering her iconic queer anthem "Born This Way."
The singer (who, apart from his solo work, is also part of the band Just B) repeated his sentiments in the social media post, captioning the video clip with the message: "I want to share something real with you. I'm proud to be a part of the LGBTQ+ community - as a gay person."
"And my queen Lady Gaga showed me that being different is beautiful," the 23-year-old artist (real name Song Byeong-hee) added in the post's caption.
Bain's emergence from the closet was met with love and acceptance from all sides, the BBC relayed. "Just B member Siwoo said he cried while watching Bain's performance," the outlet recounted.
Said Siwoo: "I know how hard it was for him, and that made me want to cry more."
Fans flocked to Bain's Insta post to show their love, the report added.
"you are an inspiration for so many people bain," one person posted. "you are seen and loved beyond words !!!! i'm so proud of you and wish nothing but the best for you 🤍 never stop being you".
Echoed another: "Byeonghee,, we are so immensely fucking proud of you!! Your bravery means a lot to us & will absolutely change lives. We love you so much!! 🏳️🌈💙"
One fan enthused, "i don't think i'll ever properly be able to put into words how much i'm so grateful to have someone like you to look up to 🥹," while another gushed: "thank u for giving us lgbtq+ onlyb a safe place. i felt so happy during ur lady gaga covers at ur concert and felt so much love in the room as u were on stage."
Bain's coming out is "a rare move in an industry known for its tight control over artists' behavior," the BBC noted, "where stars typically keep details of their personal lives private, particularly relationships."
It's not always that way, though. Added the BBC: "Just last month, Lara, an Indian-American member of the girl group Katseye, came out as queer on a K-pop fan community platform."
"In 2020, Jiae from the now-disbanded girl group Wassup announced on Instagram that she is bisexual," the writeup recalled.
Congratulations, Bain!
